Raidla Lejins & Norcous attended the IBA Annual Conference

This year the IBA Annual Conference was held in Madrid from October 4 – 9. From Raidla Lejins & Norcous partner Jüri Raidla and tax counsel Marek Herm attended the conference. This year the conference attracted approximately 5000 lawyers across the globe.

Marek Herm participated in the international discussion panel which analysed different tax measures that states have started to use in order to alleviate the economic crisis. Four main issues were covered during the panel:

• Stimulating Economic Growth: tax changes used to encourage economic activity.
• Increasing Liquidity: tax changes designed to increase the flow of funds to taxpayers and alleviate credit market paralysis.
• International Tax System: changes to international tax and controlled foreign corporation regimes in the recessionary environment. Conflicting aims of expanding domestic tax base vs. creating an internationally competitive tax environment.
• Revenue Generation: tax policies used to raise revenues to fund government recession mollifying spending programs.
