Mr. Ants Nõmper, partner of Raidla Lejins & Norcous was appointed member of Estonian Council of Bioethics

Since March 4th, 2008 Mr. Ants Nõmper, a leading specialist in IP and Medical Law in Estonia was appointed a member of the Estonian Council on Bioethics which is an advisory and coordinating body of Ministry of Social Affairs in bioethical issues. The Estonian Council on Bioethics was founded on 1 April 1998 by regulation No. 27 of the Minister of Social Affairs that approves the statutes of the Council on Bioethics. The membership of the Council is approved by the Minister of Social Affairs for a term of three years. The Council consists of 11 members. The Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretary of the Council are appointed by the Minister of Social Affairs.

The Council is responsible for:
• shaping common bioethical positions in the fields of medicine;
• introducing the principles of bioethics to the public and organising the publication of relevant information;
• coordinating the activities of ethics committees on human research and committees on bioethics that exist in Estonia;
• making proposals on bioethics upon preparing draft Acts and other legislation;
• advising the Parlament and government agencies on bioethics.
