Jaanus Ikla, former general counsel to the Port of Tallinn and the national energy company Eesti Energia, is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading experts on matters pertaining to legal regulation of the energy and real estate sectors. Jaanus has extensive experience with a wide range of projects such as the purchase, sale and expansion of hotels, shopping centres, windmill parks, Estonian-Finnish submarine cable, power stations, port terminals etc. He is one of the main authors of the Electricity Market Act and has been actively involved in drafting a number of other laws including the Law of Obligations Act and Public Procurement Act.

  • Advising the national energy company Eesti Energia Aktsiaselts in connection with the procurement and construction of a new greenfield oil shale fired power plant in Narva, Estonia. The project, valued at EUR 1 billion, is the largest single investment ever in Estonia
  • Advising EAST CAPITAL REAL ESTATE AS in the purchase of a newly built and modern logistics property of 40,000 sqm in Tallinn
  • Advising Wärtsilä Finland Oy in a construction contract to supply two complete power plants with a total output of 250 MW for Elering AS, the Estonian transmission system operator with a total value of EUR 129 million
  • Advising the leading listed construction group Nordecon AS in a number of procurement projects related to road construction (Aruvalla-Kose road, Loo-Maardu road, Jõhvi-Kukruse road), construction of infrastructure and other public projects (water management system of Maardu city, Ahtme thermal power plant, seaplane hangars in Tallinn Seaplane Harbour, the reconstruction of railway crossings and more)
  • Advising Eesti Energia Aktsiaselts in the establishment of a synthetic crude oil plant as well as oil shale fired power plant in Jordan
  • Advising Sihtasutus KredEx in a procurement to develop a quick charging and operator service station network for electric cars
  • Advising Eesti Energia Aktsiaselts in the procurement and construction of the new greenfield waste fired power plant in Iru, Estonia
  • Advising Aktsiaselts SILLAMÄE SADAM in connection with the development of a new commercial port in the North-East Estonia (Sillamäe)
  • Advising Eesti Energia Aktsiaselts in connection with the construction and operation of the underwater electricity cable (ESTLINK) between Estonia and Finland
  • Advising AS Solaris Keskus in connection with the development of a new entertainment and conference centre in the heart of Tallinn
